Make these addictive butter toffee pretzels for a perfect sweet and salty crunch. This easy, oven-baked recipe delivers a rich, buttery brown sugar glaze that is ideal for parties, game days, or edible gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (16 ounces) small pretzel twists or loops
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Spread the pretzels in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Do not overlap them.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the butter is melted and the sugar is completely dissolved. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil and let it boil for exactly one minute, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat immediately. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Quickly sprinkle the baking soda over the toffee mixture and stir gently until it is just combined and foamy. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the pretzels on the baking sheets. Use a spatula to gently fold and toss the pretzels until they are fully coated. Work quickly, as the toffee sets fast.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the sheets from the oven and gently stir the pretzels. Return them to the oven and bake for another 20 minutes, stirring once halfway through the second baking period. This ensures a shatteringly crunchy texture.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the pretzels cool completely on the baking sheets before breaking them apart. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt over the pretzels immediately after removing them from the oven.
  • If you want to make these a gourmet simple snack, drizzle melted dark chocolate over the cooled pretzels before serving.
  • This recipe is great for making large batches of snack recipes for crowds.
