Make this simple Parmesan Crusted Tilapia for a quick, flavorful weeknight dinner. The fish stays tender inside while the cheesy crust bakes up golden and crispy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 (5 ounce) tilapia fillets
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Pat the tilapia fillets dry using paper towels. This step helps the crust stick and become crispy.
  3. In a shallow dish, combine the grated Parmesan cheese, Panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix these dry ingredients well.
  4. Brush the tops of the tilapia fillets lightly with olive oil.
  5. Press the oiled side of each fillet firmly into the Parmesan mixture until it is evenly coated with the crispy topping.
  6. Place the crusted fillets on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork and the topping is golden brown and crunchy. Cooking time depends on the thickness of your fillets.
  8. Serve your tender, flaky tilapia immediately.

Notes

  • For an extra crispy crust, you can briefly place the fillets under the broiler for the last 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  • This recipe works well for air fryer tilapia parmesan; cook at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for about 8-10 minutes.
  • If you prefer a stronger flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of onion powder to the crust mixture.
