Ingredients
Scale
1 cup peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, combine the peanut butter, sugar, egg, baking soda, and salt. Mix until you have a uniform dough.
Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them two inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
Use a fork to press down on each dough ball, creating a crisscross pattern. This prevents the cookies from spreading too much.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly set. Do not overbake.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a fudgier texture, use creamy peanut butter.
If your dough seems too dry, add 1 teaspoon of milk.
To achieve the classic crosshatch, press the fork down once, then rotate the fork 90 degrees and press again.
