Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 (9.25 ounce) bag Nacho Cheese Flavored Tortilla Chips (Doritos)
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium heat until the beef is browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder into the skillet with the beef mixture. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until heated through.
  4. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the sour cream and 1 1/2 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese until combined.
  5. Crush about half of the Doritos chips slightly by hand. Fold the crushed chips into the beef mixture.
  6. Spread half of the beef and chip mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Layer the remaining whole or slightly broken chips over the first layer.
  8. Spoon the remaining beef mixture over the chip layer.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
  10. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the casserole is heated through.
  11. Let the casserole stand for 5 minutes before serving. Top with the remaining whole Doritos chips for garnish, if desired.

Notes

  • For a spicier flavor, use Spicy Nacho Cheese Doritos or add a dash of hot sauce to the meat mixture.
  • You can substitute the cream soups with your preferred condensed soup, like cream of celery or cheddar cheese soup.
  • If you want a crispier topping, reserve all the chips for layering and crush the remaining half to sprinkle over the top before the final layer of cheese.
