This easy pea salad recipe delivers the creamy, crunchy texture of a classic side dish, perfect for potlucks, BBQs, and family gatherings. It features sweet peas, crispy bacon, and sharp cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans sweet green peas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup cooked, crumbled bacon
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place the drained peas, crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped red onion, and chopped celery into a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, white vinegar, sugar, and Dijon mustard until smooth. This creates your tangy dressing.
  3. Pour the dressing over the pea mixture. Gently fold all ingredients together until everything is evenly coated.
  4. Season the salad with salt and black pepper to your preference.
  5. Cover the bowl and chill the salad in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving. Chilling allows the flavors to blend.
  6. Serve cold as a crowd-pleasing side dish for your next picnic or BBQ.

Notes

  • You can prepare this make-ahead salad up to 24 hours in advance. The flavor improves after chilling.
  • For the best texture, pat the drained peas lightly with a paper towel before mixing.
  • If you prefer a sharper flavor, use aged cheddar cheese.
