Make the best party appetizer with these incredibly moist cream cheese sausage balls. This simple recipe uses just four ingredients to create savory, cheesy bites perfect for game day or holiday gatherings. They stay soft and flavorful, avoiding the dryness common in other recipes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix them together until they are well combined.
  3. Add the breakfast sausage and the Bisquick baking mix to the cheese mixture.
  4. Use your hands to mix all the ingredients thoroughly until a uniform dough forms. Do not overmix.
  5. Roll the mixture into small, one-inch balls. Place the balls onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch between them.
  6. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the sausage balls are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly on the sheet before serving warm.

Notes

  • For a zesty variation, drain one 10-ounce can of Rotel (diced tomatoes and green chilies) and mix it into the dough with the other ingredients.
  • You can prepare the dough ahead of time. Roll the balls, place them on a baking sheet, cover, and chill for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • These sausage and cream cheese recipe bites freeze well. Bake them completely, cool, then store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to three months. Reheat in the oven when ready to serve.
