Make this hearty, cheesy cheeseburger pie for a simple family dinner. This recipe uses ground beef and bakes up like a satisfying comfort food casserole.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 refrigerated 9-inch pie crust
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup crushed potato chips (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the refrigerated pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate and press it into the bottom and up the sides. Set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, salt, and pepper into the beef mixture. Cook for 1 minute, stirring to combine the flavors. Spread this beef mixture evenly over the bottom of the prepared pie crust.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until they are fully blended. Pour this egg and milk mixture carefully over the beef layer in the pie crust.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the filling.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the center is set and the crust is golden brown. If the edges of the crust start to brown too quickly, cover them loosely with foil.
  7. Remove the cheeseburger pie from the oven. If you are using them, sprinkle the crushed potato chips over the top immediately.
  8. Let the pie cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving this easy baked dinner.

Notes

  • For a bacon cheeseburger pie variation, cook 4 slices of crumbled bacon with the ground beef mixture.
  • You can skip the refrigerated crust and use the ‘impossible’ method by pouring the batter over the beef and letting the crust form during baking, though this recipe uses a standard crust for stability.
  • Use your favorite burger toppings, like pickles or diced tomatoes, as a fresh garnish after baking.
